Much is made of the "Harlem Miracle," referring to a charter school run by the Harlem Children's Zone. Operating on a $36 million budget, the HCZ Promise Academy serves 600 students. I did a little math I learned it in public school: $36 million divided by 600 equals $60,000. Per student. And the agency director, Geoffrey Canada, pulls down a sweet $400,000 a year.
Most public schools ain't broke and don't need to be fixed. They just need to be treated as charter schools.Amen.
