I will protect your pensions. Nothing about your pension is going to change when I am governor. - Chris Christie, "An Open Letter to the Teachers of NJ" October, 2009

More Rationality

It's spreading...
I would hazard a guess that today most retired
teachers and state workers probably began their
careers with similar goals and ideals. No school
district was forced to give them a job with those
existing benefits. Now we have a governor
who holds us with so much contempt that he is
advocating propositions that will destroy those
benefits for which we agreed to work and for which
we were legitimately promised, while asking no
sacrifices from the rich.

He now proposes to mend our broken pension
system with concessions that are directed to the
only parties who upheld their legal part of the
bargain. Does the pension system need some
drastic overhauling? Absolutely, yes. The retirement
age, years of service, contributions, etc., need to be
realistically modified for today's economic
conditions but not by dictatorial fiat. More
importantly, taking our contributions for health care
costs only feeds a health insurance system
that continually increases their rates while being
protected by the Republican party. Great solution,
gov.!
It's SOOOO frustrating to read an article like this and wonder why a layman has to raise the points that should have already been made by the elite NJ punditocracy.
