@liberalcrone Union raises 4-5 times inflation. Free health benefits 4 life? Can we really afford that? Does it improve education in NJ?10:29 AM Oct 11th via Tweetee in reply to liberalcroneFirst: over the last 20 years, teacher pay in NJ rose 150%; the average worker's pay rose 162%. So let's cut the crap.
Second: the latest settled contracts have a 1.6% increase. See that's how it works, Chris: contracts change as wage pressures go up or down. I guess you missed that day in Econ 101.
@DarthSpacegrass Mistake [on RTTT application] was made before the ordered changes. Pls learn the facts.10:25 AM Oct 11th via Tweetee in reply to DarthSpacegrass
Uh, no. The NJEA said explicitly the last draft they had was correct; THEN Jim Gearhart demanded you change the application.
@liberalcrone Public sector workers comp now higher than avg private sector comp in US. Suffering??10:24 AM Oct 11th
Not when accounting for education. Public worker compensation for college-educated workers (like teachers) is much lower than the private sector; it's even worse if you have a master's degree.
@liberalcrone NJ has highest tax burden in US. We are already meeting your test.10:23 AM Oct 11th
No, we don't. CPPP says we are 31st for total revenue as a percentage of residents' income. Census numbers compiled by the Journal-Sentinel for all states this past spring put us at 40th.
@liberalcrone Pointing out the "greed" of the teachers union, NOT teachers. Never hear you talk about that though, huh?10:22 AM Oct 11th
Complete nonsense. He has talked about teacher greed time and again, and his lame excuse that it's the unions, not the teachers, is directly contracted by his first statement about
@liberalcrone "Richest" NJ citizens pay 9% income tax-among most in nation. Always liberal solution-raise taxes in highest tax state in US.10:13 AM Oct 11th
9% is not a real rate, it's a MARGINAL rate (do you understand the difference, Governor?). There is no local income tax in NJ like in PA. See above about how we AREN'T #1 in taxes. And remember: The bottom 95% of taxpayers in NJ pay more of a percentage of their income in state and local taxes combined than the top 5%.
@MichaelStefano 1 shot $ is 1 shot $-delaying the day of reckoning wrong strategy. $700m would be saved by teacher pay freeze. Ur thoughts?10:11 AM Oct 11th
Blatant lie. The OLS analysis says savings from a teacher freeze are far, far less - not even 1/4 of the cuts you made. And your number came from Bret Schundler, who you said couldn't be trusted.
Oh, and since you're against "one-shots": would a teacher wage freeze be permanent?
@prblcse $25 billion spent last year on K-12 education. Let's fix the system and help kids learn, not just fatten the NJEA coffers
Dear lord, that's just so dumb on it's face. No context; no comparison. We're not #1 in spending, so what is the point of this meaningless number?
@liberalcrone love shown by status quo defenders to our kids is to continue failed ed system like Newark where 1 of 2 kids don't graduate
Bob Braun in the Star-Ledger:
To give some numbers, nationally, white males had a 78 percent graduation rate in 2007-2008, compared with a 75 percent graduation rate for black males in Newark.@OTOOLEFAN Because the fed gov't cut aid to NJ schools by $1.057 billion for FY11. So we spent $237m more in NJ funds. Next question?
And yet, somehow, the $600 million gift he gave to NJ millionaires never figures into his equations...
I could go on all night, but what's the point? He doesn't care if he's telling the truth, because he will not pay a price for misstating, misdirecting, or outright lying.
And whose fault is that?
