But once Marie becomes an elected official (I'm assuming she will win, he said hopefully), she will have to represent all of her constituents, not just the teachers. She can't appear to be favoring the interests of teachers over everyone else. It will be a difficult and delicate tightrope walk for her and she will have to make strategic compromises at some points. This does not mean that she has to betray her core principles or the interests of teachers but democratic (small d) politics is about compromise.
